/ The paperwork, done as you go

Finish the job. The certificate’s already started.

Mark the job complete and TradieO starts the certificate from the job record. Add a few details and sign it, and it’s filed, the lodging deadline counts down, and it’s ready for you to copy onto the regulator’s own form. Your customer’s copy is a tap away.

/ The pain

The certificate no one warns you about eating your week.

Every compliant job comes with a form. Electrical work, gas fitting, plumbing — the regulator wants a certificate, filled out properly and lodged on time. Miss it, get it wrong, or let it pile up, and it’s your licence on the line, not just your evening.

So you do them at the kitchen table. Or you let them stack up in the ute until the shoebox is full. Either way it’s a job on top of the job — unpaid, joyless, and easy to get behind on.

/ How TradieO handles it

Three steps, from job to certificate.

1

The job already has most of what the form needs

As you quote and complete the work in TradieO, it captures the details a certificate starts from — the customer, the site, the work done, the parts. You add the few the law needs on top.

2

Completing the job starts the certificate

Mark the job done and TradieO starts a draft for your trade, with your licence number and the job’s details already in. You add the energised or commissioned date, the tests done and the number from your own official book, then check and sign.

3

It starts the clock and keeps it filed

TradieO counts down the deadline from when the work was energised, commissioned or completed: electrical is 3 days, gas 48 hours, plumbing 5 business days. It shows on the job, adds a Lodge certificate task, and reminds you before it’s due and again if it’s overdue. Your signed certificate is filed for as long as you want it, ready to copy onto the regulator’s own form. You lodge it, then tick “I’ve lodged it”.

/ Why it matters

The feature that changes everything.

For a lot of tradies, compliance paperwork is the job that gets pushed to the evening. Starting it from the job record takes the typing out of it, and the week feels different.

It’s also the part that matters for your licence. When certificates start from the actual job record and the deadline counts down in front of you, it’s much harder for a backlog to build, and for an “I’ll do it Sunday” to turn into a compliance problem three months later.

/ FAQ

Compliance questions.

Which trades and certificates does it cover?

It has certificate wording and a deadline for electrical, gas and plumbing, plus a general profile for other work. Tasmania’s rules are the ones built in. It’s a filed record you copy onto the regulator’s own form, not the form itself.

Does it really lodge to the authority, or just keep a record?

No, it doesn’t lodge. Tasmania has no online lodgement system yet — the Government put one out to tender in February 2026 — so nobody’s software can lodge for you. What TradieO does: starts the certificate from the job, lets you add the rest and sign, counts down the deadline and reminds you, and keeps your signed copy on file for as long as you want it. You lodge it, then tick “I’ve lodged it”, with a reference if you like.

What if I need to check or edit a certificate before it goes?

You review every certificate before it’s filed. The job’s details come from the real job record, you add the rest and sign, and “Check and sign” records who signed and when. After that it can’t change: a correction is a new version, and the old one is kept. Nothing goes to your customer until you tap “Check and send to customer”, unless you switch on automatic sending. You lodge it, under your licence.

What about the states and rules where I work?

Compliance differs by state and trade, and the rules built in are Tasmania’s: electrical certificates to TechSafe within 3 days of energising, gas within 48 hours of commissioning, and the plumbing standard-of-work certificate within 5 business days. The law asks for records to be kept 10 years; TradieO keeps them as long as you want. If you work outside Tasmania, ask us before you sign up.
