Privacy policy

The short version: we collect what you type into our forms so we can call you back, we count visits with Google Analytics only if you say yes, and we don’t sell your details to anyone. The detail is below.

Who we are

tradieo.io is run by Tradie Engine (ABN 13 839 272 738), the maker of TradieO. Our postal address is PO Box 171, Sorell TAS 7172. In this policy, “we” and “us” mean Tradie Engine. We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).

This policy covers this website. If you buy TradieO, your own system is a separate install that holds your customers’ details; you decide what goes into it and how it’s used, and we only access it when you ask us to, or to set it up and keep it running, secure and backed up.

What we collect

When you send us an enquiry or booking request

On the contact form we ask for your name, business name, phone, email, trade, crew size, where you work and (optionally) your current website and a message. On the appointment form we also ask for a job address, preferred date and time, and you can add access notes and photos. We only collect what you choose to type or upload.

Technical information

To stop spam and abuse, our forms use a hidden check field, a timing check and a short-lived rate limit. The rate limit uses a scrambled (hashed) version of your IP address that is discarded within minutes. If a submission is blocked as spam, we keep what was typed in a short log of the last 100 blocked messages so we can check we haven’t blocked a real person.

Website analytics (only if you agree)

If you click Accept on our cookie banner, we use Google Analytics 4 to count visits: which pages are viewed, roughly where visitors come from, device and browser type, and whether a form was submitted. Google sets cookies (_ga and _ga_…) for this. If you click Decline, or ignore the banner, analytics cookies are not set and our system sends no analytics events that identify you.

When someone who accepted analytics submits a form, our server also sends Google a “lead” event. It says which form was used and, where relevant, the trade and what the person wants (demo, setup or question). It does not include your name, email, phone or message.

Why we collect it

  • To reply to you, call you back and book a demo or answer your question.
  • To run and improve this website (analytics, if you’ve agreed).
  • To keep the site secure and block spam.
  • To meet legal obligations.

We don’t use your details for anything unrelated, and we won’t add you to a marketing list unless you ask us to.

Who sees it

  • Us. Enquiries go into our own customer-management system and to our contact email.
  • Our service providers that keep the site running: our hosting provider (DigitalOcean, with the server in Sydney, Australia) and the email service we use to send notifications, who handle the data only to deliver those services.
  • Google, for analytics, if you accept cookies. Google may process this information in countries outside Australia, including the United States.
  • The law. If we’re required to disclose information by law, we will.

We do not sell your personal information to anyone, and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing.

Cookies and similar technology

  • Your choice, stored in your browser (tn_consent): remembers whether you accepted or declined so we don’t keep asking. You can change your mind at any time with the “Cookie settings” link at the bottom of every page.
  • Google Analytics cookies (_ga, _ga_…): only after you accept. They last up to about two years, and Google’s analytics data about you is kept for up to 14 months in our account.

You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings.

How long we keep it

We keep enquiry details for as long as we need them to follow up and deal with you, and then archive them. If you’d like yours deleted sooner, ask us and we’ll do it (unless the law requires us to keep it).

Keeping it safe

The site runs over HTTPS, enquiry data sits behind a login on a server we control, and access is limited to the people who need it. No system is perfectly secure, so please don’t put anything sensitive in a form that you wouldn’t want us to have, such as card numbers or passwords. We’ll never ask for them.

Your rights

You can ask us to show you the personal information we hold about you, correct it, or delete it. Email jason@tradieo.io, ring 0423 064 944, or write to PO Box 171, Sorell TAS 7172, and we’ll respond within a reasonable time, usually within 30 days.

If you think we’ve mishandled your information, tell us first and we’ll try to fix it. If you’re still not happy, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.

Links to other sites

This site may link to other websites. We don’t control them and this policy doesn’t cover them.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle information, we’ll update this page and the date at the top.
